Avis de décès de James-T. Drake


James T. Drake, longtime resident of Riverdale, died February 16, 2003. He was 81 years old. James was a member of the famed 82nd and 101st Army Airborne Divisions, parachuting 28 times into enemy territory during WWII. He also served in the OSS, where he received a Purple Heart in recognition of his bravery and service to his country. He was a longtime member of the business community in Yonkers, working as a florist for over 50 years. He was well-known to his patrons for his artistic designs as the owner The Hollywood Florist from 1973 until his retirement. He was very close to his family and will be deeply missed by his devoted and loving wife of 54 years, Madeline (nee Verdis) Drake; his daughter Catherine Drake Zweiben and her husband Robert; his son, Ted Drake and his wife Mary Lou. He was the cherished grandfather "Papou" of Scott, James, Maressa and Maggie. He will be missed by his brother-in-law and business partner, Louis Vardilos. He is also survived by his brother John and two sisters: Marika and Joanna, who reside in Piraeus, Greece. Calling hours will be at FLYNN MEMORIAL HOME, INC., 325 South Broadway, Yonkers, on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Service will take place Friday, 10 AM, at Prophet Elias Church, Yonkers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
