Avis de décès de Henry-Howard Shaw


SHAW Henry " Hank" Howard Shaw, age 87 passed away with a wink and a smile in Jacksonville, Florida on September 29, 2003, surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 27, 1916 in Fort Morgan, Colorado to Joseph N. and Anna W. Shaw. On April 6, 1942 he married his sweetheart, Jean Burkhart in Sidney, Nebraska. As a youth growing up in Merino Colorado, Hanks love of hunting gave root and he excelled in all sports, particularly basketball and baseball. He was selected and played with the minor leagues in Colorado and Nebraska. He also trained with the major league in Arkansas. Hank enlisted in the United States Army on March 7, 1939 at Fort Logan, Colorado. His numerous assignments included Fitzsimmons Army Hospital during World War II, 177th Station Hospital Yokohama, Japan during the Korean Conflict, Brook Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas and ultimately to pursue his lifes passion full time - professional skeet and trap shooting for the Marksmanship Training Unit at Fort Benning, Georgia. He traveled extensively across the United States and abroad while continuing to win and place in numerous skeet and trap matches, his highlights being a gold medal won in the Pan American games in San Pablo, Brazil and state championships won in Colorado, Texas and Georgia. Hank retired from the Armed Services on December 30, 1964. Where upon, he began his second career with United and Mutual of Omaha serving his clients diligently for twenty years in Columbus, GA. Hank the retired in 1984 to begin a third career - full time hunter and skeet shooter. These he pursued with zeal and passion. During the past several years, he delighted in listening to his wife play the piano and organ at their church, Asbury United Methodist Church in Columbus, GA. Ultimately, Hank and Jean relocated to Cypress Village, Jacksonville, Florida in November, 2002, where they continued to pursue their love of life with their daughter and grand-dog. Throughout his life, Hank remained strong-willed and optimistic having over come cancer, abdominal aortic aneurysm, and a stoke. Through these ordeals, he had the kindness and support of those at the Columbus Regional Medical Center Cancer Unit, Shands Comprehensive Stroke Program, Jacksonville, FL, Brooks Rehabilitation, Jacksonville, FL and, of coarse, the members of Asbury United Methodist Church. Hank will be remembered for his love of Hunting and sports. These loves he shared and passed on to his son. He loved spending time with family. He cherished the time he spent with this dog, Bud and his grand-dog, Sunny. He was a special man and will be greatly missed by all. He was kind and generous, always willing to share whatever he had. He is survived by his wife, Jean of Jacksonville, Florida, and children: Debra L. Dye of Jacksonville and Henry H. Shaw of Erie, Colorado brother, William A. Shaw of Sterling, Colorado and their families; in addition he leaves behind countless friends and colleagues from coast to coast. The family would like to thank the staff of Shands Trauma Center and TraumaOne, Jacksonville, FL for their concern and compassionate help during his final days and with special thanks to Rev. Carol Lavery of Cypress Village. Memorial Services will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church, Broadmoor Drive and Ellen Street, Columbus, Georgia (706-689-4190) at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 5, 2003 with Rev. Wayne Anthony officiating. Interment Services with full Military Honors will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colorado, at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2003. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Asbury United Methodist Church, Broadmoor Drive, Columbus, GA or the American Cancer Society of Columbus, GA.
