DANFORTH - Harry Nason Gillis, 87, died April 29, 2011, at a Houlton hospital. He was born Dec. 13, 1923, in Danforth, son of Mancel and Nellie (Nason) Gillis. He graduated from Danforth High School, Class of 1941. He served in World War II as a paratrooper and international Morse code operator in headquarters of the 11th Airborne Division in the Pacific Theater. He was a partner in the former Gillis Lumber Co., a member of Baskahegan Lodge No. 175, Anah Temple Shrine, Bangor, and Post No. 45 American Legion, Danforth, and attended Danforth Baptist Church. He is survived by the five most wonderful children that a father could ever ask for, June and her husband, Shirley Williams, of New Limerick, John and Kenny Gillis of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Susan and her husband, Bud Shain, of Danforth, Scott and his wife, Barbara Gillis, of Boca Raton, Fla., and Molly and her husband, Paul Sutorious, of Pelham Manor, N.Y.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, Nikki and Donny Leadbetter and their children, Will and Neve, of Buxton, Budd and Dawn Shain and their children, Harrison and Miles, of Eddington, Jordan and Cindy Shain and their children, Jackson and Willow, of Clermont, Fla., Robby Nason Gillis of Miami, and Mia and Jake Del Gais of Pelham Manor, N.Y.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers, Frank and Fred of Danforth; a sister, Marilyn Jean (Gillis) Lavoie of Bangor; and a niece, Paula Rumery of Bangor. Funeral services were held May 1 at Clay Funeral Home - Bartlett Chapel, 24 Houlton Road, Danforth. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Harry may be made to Danforth Baptist Church.
