MELROSE George Walter Goodwin, 85, formerly of Sylvia Drive, died Friday, January 28, 2005, at Evergreen Commons Health Care in East Greenbush after a long illness. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late George H. Goodwin and Marguerite Norris Goodwin and husband of Charlotte Norton Lansing Goodwin of Melrose. George was predeceased by his first wife, Helen Mearns Goodwin. Raised in Lansingburgh, he was a graduate of Troy High School. Mr. Goodwin was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving on the USS Vulcan during World War II and on the USS Delta during the Korean War. He worked for the NY State Corrections Department as the maintenance supervisor of plant operations, retiring in 1985. He previously worked at the Capital District Psychiatric Center (CDPC) in Albany and General Electric Co. in Schenectady. He also was a former vice president of the former Ludlow Valve Co. in Troy. He was a past master of the Phoenix Jerusalem Lodge F & AM in Lansingburgh and a member of the Troy Pistol League. Survivors, in addition to his wife Charlotte, include a brother, Arlington N. Goodwin (Wilma) of Pa.; three sisters, Marjorie R. Mennillo (John) of Troy, Marece H Gibb (Ray) of Rochester and Marguerite W. Gibbs (David) of Troy; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday from the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh and 10:00 a.m. at the Gardner Earl Crematorium Chapel in Oakwood Cemetery, with Rev. John Kelly, pastor of Trinity Episcopal Church, Lansingburgh, officiating. Calling hours are 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at a later date.
