MATTHEWS,GARY PAUL, 61Gainesville - Gary Paul Matthews, born April 1, 1951 in Cincinnati, Ohio, died November 9, 2012 in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He came to Gainesville, Florida in 1984. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where he was an Altar Server, Usher, and Eucharistic Minister. He was a volunteer in Alachua County for 25 years with many organizations, including the first volunteer in 1984 for the St. Francis House, Founder of the St. Vincent De Paul Society, The Knights of Columbus Council 6108 as past Grand Knight, the North Central Florida Aids Network and Founder of the Home Van which feeds the homeless. He was a brother of Christ taking care of all of God's children. He is survived by three children, Maureen, Jacob, and Jessica, all of Harrisonburg, Virginia; two sisters, Linda and Connie of Orlando, FL, three nieces, Brittney, Amanda, and Tanith of Orlando, FL and his caregiver and man he called his son for 28 years Robert "Burt" Wetherington of Gainesville, Florida. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday, January 7, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Fr.
