Betty Hennessey 1927 - 2012 HOLYOKE - Elizabeth Betty (Couture) Hennessey, 84, passed away on January 1, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center. Betty was born in Hemstead, NY on December 18, 1927. She was a graduate of Holyoke High School and the Holyoke Hospital School of Nursing where she became a Registered Nurse. Betty also worked for several years at Annie's Attic in Westfield in large part due to her creative talents with painting and crafts. Betty's courage throughout her life was insurmountable and her spirit and determination to overcome life's obstacles is an inspiration to all who knew her, especially her family. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Potenza and her husband Michael of Southampton; her two brothers, Robert Couture and his wife Eileen of Southampton; Joseph Couture of Granby; sister in law, Mary Ferro of Holyoke; her two adored grandchildren, Bart Potenza of Holyoke; Krystal Potenza of Southampton; two cherished great grandchildren, Isabella and Brooke Potenza; as well as many dear friends and extended family members. She was a member of the Blessed Virgin Rosary Sodality in Holyoke and loved reading. Visiting hours for Betty will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2012 from 4-7 PM at Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke 01040. A ceremony will be held on Friday, January 6, 2012 at 9:30 AM in Messier Funeral Home. The Burial and Rite of Committal will follow in Southampton Center cemetery, College Hwy, Southampton, MA.
