Ellen Jean Durrett, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, departed this life on Friday, March 12, 2004 after a long illness. She was born December 1, 1927 in Waterbury, CT, daughter of the late George and Frances (Freeman) Dillon. She received her basic education in the Waterbury Public Schools and then was trained in the Culinary Arts at the Westchester Community College, and was employed for many years as a cook for the Dumont Masonic Home, New Rochelle, NY. Surviving are four daughters: Jeanne Williams, Patricia Jackson, Diane and Peggy Durrett; five sons: Thurman, David, Roger, Tracy and Raymond Durrett; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four sisters: Margaret Hunter, Priscilla Dillon, Helen Carter and Shirley Gamble and other relatives and friends. Predeceased by two daughters: Barbara Sue and Frances Durrett; a son, Richard Durrett; a sister, Mary McDonald; a brother, George Dillon. Visiting Thursday 3-5 and 7-9 pm, McClanahan Funeral Home, 30 Winthrop Avenue, New Rochelle. Funeral, Friday 10 am, Shiloh Baptist Church, 185 Lincoln Ave., New Rochelle.
