BROOKS Doris (nee Melber), 81, passed peacefully at home in Rutherford on Saturday, October 11, 2008, after a long illness. Doris was born in Union City and later resided in Rutherford for 32 years.She was a graduate of the Mount St. Mary's College, Milwaukee and received her Master's in Education from Wisconsin State University. Doris went on to teach in various parochial schools in the Mid-West for 17 years. She later moved to New Jersey and brought her teaching skills to the Hawthorne Board of Education where she taught on the elementary school level for 19 years. After her time in Hawthorne, she continued as an educator and brought her passion to Sacred Heart Parochial School in Lyndhurst. There she administered to all the young students that attended for the next 18 years.All in all, she has spent 55 years, over a half a century, dedicating herself to children's education. She was greatly appreciated by all her past and present students, as well as their parents and fellow educators.Doris received the Catholic School's 'Teacher of the Year Award' in 1997 for her outstanding service and support to the community. Doris is survived by her adoring husband Paul, her loving daughters, Barbara Langston and her husband Kerry, Diane Brooks and her husband Stephen Solomon, and her endearing grandchildren, Waverly and Milli Langston, Kiera and Avery Solomon.Doris fought a brave fight against cancer and in her final hours was surrounded by her husband and family.Funeral Wednesday, 9 AM, from the Collins-Calhoun Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Avenue, Rutherford followed by a 9&#58;30 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's RC Church, Rutherford. Interment Hillside Cemetery, Lyndhurst. Family will receive friends Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
