Bessie H. Wood July 25, 2011 Leaving a gaping hole in the hearts and lives of many, Bessie H. Wood of Fayetteville, joined her husband, George, her soul mate for over 55 years, on July 25, 2011. Born in Marcellus on November 6, 1918 to George W. and Mabel G. Hollenbeck, Bess graduated from Marcellus HS and Syracuse Barber and Beauty School. She owned a beauty shop for many years. Bess was a real lady with a beautiful soul who was compassionate, loving, loyal, tireless and selfless. She loved family, friends, animals, flowers...and a party! She lived life with a quiet dignity, strength and grace. Along with many other interests, Bess was active in DeWitt Community Church and Home Garden Club and served as vice chair of the Manlius Republican Committee for many years. Besides George and her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Phillip Hollenbeck, and sister, Margaret Albrecht. Survivors: daughters, Sandra (Alan) Matthews of Virginia, Judy Corey (roommate and caregiver) and Corby; beloved granddaughter, Melissa M. Matthews of Virginia; loving cousins, nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Arnold Albrecht; special canine companion, Timber; and many friends. Family and friends may call 4 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 3, at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville. A memorial service will follow at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fayetteville Cemetery.
